You spent all winter
ignoring the city bells
as you said with a yearning yet determined
glint in your eyes as you
told me how you liquefied
from the previous spring and summer
to return again to sing your purple melodies
with their wooden voices,
the clanking caterwaul of jelly jars
where you stored the warm melodies
for your phantasmagorical trek.
And you have returned to gut the gray sky
so we won’t have to sit as the cold silence
breezes like a hole in the dark rhythm of frigidity.
But the shade of hope in your eyes
strangely and suddenly began to express
your belief that fear fades when April skies
brag their warm gloamings
as the length of the light
extends into a seeming eternity
