MIRROR
A small scar,
the ghost of pain.
Fragile flesh
falling away from twin nostrils.
Patchy skin color
dark mole
and scalp scratching -
all your inferior forms.
Listen -
bird song from the clearness of the foothills
while you're
alternating bloodless lips and pointed nose,
placing all your faith in a mirror
a melting mask
and purveyors of wrinkle creams
in the battle for your exterior soul.
In the depths of the mirror,
self-confidence is fully aware
it could lose this one
