GATOR BUSTIN’ -Poetry by guest author- Emily Daich

Back down in the far west,

There was a young girl raised to wear a cowgirl vest.

She was the mutton-bustin’ queen.

The best cowgirl you’ve ever seen.

She put all the boys to shame,

Winning every buckle, she earned her fame.

She thought life was great,

Until her parents changed her fate.

Moving to Florida was the last thing she wanted!

A place with no horses or sheep sounded haunted!

As she looked into the soggy, swampy ground,

There was no rodeo to be found.

But then, to her great surprise,

Out of the swamp, it began to rise.

Without a second to waste, she hopped on that gator.

She straddled its back and called, “See y'all later!”

It whipped its tail and splashed a fight,

But she held her ground and stayed on tight.

Finally, it stopped!

The gator had been topped!

She thought in her mind, "He’s tame!

I've done it! Yeehaw, I've won the game!"

But as that girl started to leave,

The gator still had one more trick up his sleeve.

Quickly he came up to her side,

And deviously beckoned her for one last ride.

So the cowgirl hopped on, having a trick up her sleeve.

One that the gator would never believe!

But right as the creature rolled into the creek,

That frightened cowgirl started to shriek!

She lassoed its neck and gained control,

To win a gator was her final goal.

Then the rope snapped, and he bucked her free.

She landed down hard and wanted to flee!

Her buckle glistened, and an idea came.

She looked at the gator with one final aim.

The girl jumped on top and buckled his snout.

She took the “reigns” and rode the guy out.
